Since its founding in 1980, Ortovox has been about protecting the mountain and mountain athletes. The alpine space is the place where we feel good, that gives us strength, inspires us. By producing fair, sustainable products, they want to protect it.
What matters most to you as a brand?
At ORTOVOX, everything revolves around protection. Protection on the mountain through innovative products and knowledge transfer – protection of nature through socially and ecologically sustainable action. Founded in 1980, our company from the south of Munich produces emergency equipment, backpacks as well as functional clothing for demanding mountaineers. At ORTOVOX, we see ourselves as a community with a firm set of values, which we actively help to shape as a team.
It looks like you have engineered change. We’re curious! Could you please share with us what’s so unique in terms of design?
Thanks to functional design, well thought-out features and high-quality materials, our products are optimally adapted to their respective area of application and are thus characterized by a long service life. Functionality in combination with thoughtful use of sustainable materials, durability and a benefit-oriented design of the products are our top priority.

Protection is the top priority at ORTOVOX. Protection refers not only to products that are intended to protect in dangerous situations on the mountain or from the elements, but also includes people and nature. ORTOVOX has set itself the goal of gradually becoming climate-neutral by 2024, as well as offering exclusively PFC-free products. We therefore appreciate the cooperation with our partner Sympatex, which successfully supports us in this approach with its PTFE- and PFAS-free high-performance membrane.
Apparently, our planet matters to you, too! What’s your approach in that regard?
The alpine space is the place where we feel comfortable, which gives us strength, inspires us. Who, if not us, has the responsibility to protect it? The ProtACT2024 sustainability strategy brings together existing standards such as the ORTOVOX WOOL PROMISE (OWP) with binding targets until 2024 at all levels of the company. The core topics of the strategy relate to animal welfare, climate and environmental protection, social responsibility, and product longevity. Also part of the strategy is the area of «Chemical Management,» i.e., the handling of chemicals in the production of products. By 2024, all products are to be free of harmful substances – this applies in particular to perfluorinated and polyfluorinated chemicals (PFCs).
