Sympatex has been named a 2022 Best for the World™ B Corp™ in recognition of its exceptional positive environmental impact. Best for the World is a distinction granted by B Lab to Certified B Corporations (B Corps) whose verified B Impact Scores in the five impact areas evaluated in the B Impact Assessment — community, customers, environment, governance, and workers — rank in the top 5% of all B Corps in their corresponding size group.

For the third time since its B-Corp certification end 2018, Sympatex earned this honor because of its uncompromised strategic focus and consistent action towards a sustainable and circular textile industry. Such action includes its involvement in collaborative initiatives such a Accelerating Circularity Europe (ACPE), being founding member of the Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Action (UNFCCC) and its efforts to minimize microsplastic. The joint mission is to reclose the textile loop by supplying polyester based monomaterials and implementing commercial systems in which textile waste is repurposed as raw material through reuse and recycling, and therefore ensure that they are not incinerated or sent to landfills.

“Sympatex Technologies GmbH pursues the […] purpose of achieving a significantly positive effect on the common good and the environment through its business activities.”  These are not only words, but is part of the notarised Sympatex’s Articles of Association, which was amended in the course of our first BCorp certification in 2018. The basic idea behind our actions has always been part of the company’s DNA and is not only proving to be a cornerstone, but is also intended to act as a beacon for other companies,” says Nicole Hühn, Corporate Social Responsibility Manager. “We are grateful and happy about the repeated award in the category “Environment” and take it as motivation to continue to put our efforts into the service of a fairer society and a cleaner environment”, adds Hühn.

Every year, Best for the World recognizes the top-performing B Corps creating the greatest positive impact through their businesses. More than a badge of honor, Best for the World provides an opportunity for recognized companies to share knowledge, learnings, and best practices with the B Corp community and businesses outside of the community to encourage innovation and transformation across the business sector. „Re>Closing the loop. Together. aptly formulates our ultimate goal: to have a common and holistic view of our world and thus to make the best possible use of our sphere of influence for our global vital systems. At the same time, in order to act sustainable, it takes more than one’s own company. Rather, an industry wide, common pursuit of circularity is indispensable“, says Kim Scholze, Chief Sustainable Community Manager and  the Soul of Sympatex’s collaboration strategy. „Through the network and B Corp’s intensive assessments and audits, it sparks more conversations around new ways of doing business right. The B Corp Collective will focus on offering a space for collective action and inspiration. That is what we need and aim for“, added Scholze.

The Best for the World recognition is administered by B Lab, the global nonprofit network that certifies and mobilizes B Corps, which are businesses that meet high standards of positive social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. Today, there are more than 5,000 B Corps across 80 countries and 155 industries, unified by one common goal: building an inclusive, equitable, and regenerative economic system.

“Each Best for the World edition is an opportunity to raise the bar for how businesses can and should operate to create real and lasting positive impact for their workers, customers, communities, and the environment,” said Dan Osusky, Head of Standards and Insights at B Lab Global. “While no company is perfect and even the best companies can and should continue to strive to improve, the B Corps recognized as Best for the World can provide us all — standards setters, B Corps, non B Corps, and sustainability advocates — with inspiration on what true leadership in business can look like to make progress on addressing our current global challenges.”

B Corp Certification doesn’t just evaluate a product or service, it assesses the overall social and environmental impact of the company that stands behind it. To achieve B Corp Certification, a company must meet a score of at least 80 points on the B Impact Assessment, an evaluation of a company’s positive impact, and pass a risk review, an evaluation of a company’s negative impact; change their corporate governance structure to be accountable to all stakeholders, not just shareholders; and exhibit transparency by allowing information about their B Corp Certification performance to be publicly available on their B Corp profile on B Lab’s website.

About Sympatex

Re>Closing the loop. Together. By incorporating a climate-neutral and recyclable Sympatex membrane.

100 billion garments and 23 billion pairs of shoes produced p.a. represent Sympatex‘s future source of new raw material, once they‘ve reached their end of life. The intelligent Sympatex membrane has been used in clothing, shoes, accessories and technical applications since 1986 and guarantees being 100% waterproof, windproof and breathable – in accordance with the performance standard. Intelligent? The membrane develops proportionally increasing breathability at higher activity. New and far above standard is that Sympatex produces functional textiles from recycled and recyclable monomaterials. Sympatex will no longer use new materials from the oil industry in the future. Instead, used textiles are transformed into new, high-quality membranes, laminates and functional textiles. Sympatex is working with selected brand partners worldwide to close the textile cycle together.
