Care of functional textiles
CARE INSTRUCTIONS FOR APPAREL WITH SYMPATEX EQUIPMENT:
A real advantage of the Sympatex membrane: The non-porous membrane functions solely according to physiochemical principles: The hydrophilic (water-attracting) elements of the Sympatex membrane absorb moisture from the body and transport it from the inside to the outside in the form of vapour. At the same time, the hydrophobic (water-repellent) elements of the membrane keep drops of rainwater away.
The non-porous structure ensures that apparel equipped with Sympatex is very easy to clean.
Unlike porous membranes (Goretex, Event), the Sympatex membrane cannot be blocked neither by transpiration (salt crystals) nor by dirt, so you don't have to wash the garments every time you wear it just to keep the efficiency of the membrane.
What is more, detergent residue (tensides) can't harm the non-porous Sympatex membrane, so that apparel with a Sympatex membrane keeps its complete efficiency even if you wash it often.
It doesn't matter if you wash the garments very often or not very often - you can count on 100% functionality and breathability.
WASHING
- Apparel with Sympatex can be washed without any problems at 40°C using the gentle wash cycle, according to the information on the care label.
- A small load works better.
- Don´t use laundry detergent with optical brighteners and bleach. You should use gentle detergent or special detergent for functional textiles.
- Don´t use fabric softener. (Damages the impregnation)
- Reduced spin-dry cycles ("easy-care").
Dry cleaning
- Dry cleaning is possible but not necessary.
- Dry cleaning is not advisable for all taped seams.
- You should pay attention to the care label!
Drying
- In general, a laundry dryer should be used, because it can activate the impregnation.
- Please choose low temperatures and low tumble-dry cycles.
Ironing
- Ironing reactivates the impregnation, but the ironing temperature should not be more than 110°C (level1).
Subsequent impregnation
- In order to ensure a constant ideal breathability, you should use a subsequent impregnation of the outer fabric as soon as water drops don't roll off anymore and the fabric becomes wet.
- You can use wash-in or spray-on impregnating agents.
- Wash-in products are simply used in the washing machine instead of fabric softener.
- Impregnating spray is applied on the outside layer of the damp or dry garment.
- After both procedures, you should use a laundry dryer (see above) - The heat reaction enhances the condensation of the impregnating agent and improves the water-repellent effect.
- Subsequent impregnation is also possible when using dry cleaning.
